The Postgraduate Diploma in Bio-health Business Creation is the first of a series of specialization degrees aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills needed to promote and consolidate the creation of companies in the bio-health sector.

This education is part of the International Joint Postgraduate Program “Advanced Skills for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the BIO Health Sector”, developed within the European Project BIOHEALTH Gear Box Alliance (BIO-ALL), funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus +, KA2 (code 600936-EPP-1-2018-1-PT-EPPKA2-KA).  This educational program will be implemented jointly in Portugal (Universidade da Beira Interior), Italy (Universitá Politecnica delle Marche) and Spain (Universidad de Granada). At the University of Granada, students who complete all the planned education will be able to obtain the Master’s degree in BioHealth Entrepreneurship and Innovation (pending approval).

The Postgraduate Diploma in Biohealth Business Creation (ECTS) of the University of Granada consists of the first four modules of this international postgraduate program, which includes theoretical/practical online classes, virtual or face-to-face seminars at BREAKER, visits to companies in the BioHealth sector and complementary project-based activities (assistance to hackathons, round tables, entrepreneurship events). These modules are:

Adapted to the new reality of the post-COVID19 stage, this Diploma consists of 80 hours online classes that will be taught simultaneously in English to students from Portugal, Italy and Spain. Also, 40 tutoring hours and 52 hours dedicated to extraordinary training sessions (seminars, entrepreneurship events and company visits) have been planned. The rest of the hours are part of the student’s autonomous work until completing 20 ECTS.

In the second quarter of the year 2020/21, the University of Granada offers the Postgraduate Diploma in BioHealth Business Management, while in the third quarter the Postgraduate Diploma in BioHealth Business Development is offered, completing the International Joint Postgraduate Program.

The BioALL project finances 85% of the registration fee of the students who obtain the Certificate of Academic Achievement.

Competences and skills

The student will know or understand:

  • detection and analysis of business opportunities.
  • the different business models existing in the biohealth sector.
  • the specific characteristics of biohealth companies with respect to other economic sectors.
  • the processes of development of medical and pharmaceutical products.
  • how to recognize legal European and national regulations regarding clinical trials.
  • how to identify the effects of audits and inspections.
  • how to differentiate between monitoring, auditing and inspection.
  • the various steps, dossiers and time frames of a controlled trial design.
  • the necessary tools for the development of business models, product design and legal aspects within the business environment of the biohealth sector.
  • the various tools for the protection of ideas and inventions applicable in the sector
  • how to identify practices and increase the knowledge about the process of technological innovation

In addition, after obtaining the diploma, students will be able to:

  • define criteria to develop the potential market for a business idea and the resources needed to introduce it to the market
  • apply basic financial tools to evaluate the needs and potential benefits of a business
  • design business model presentations
  • communicate your business idea and projects to specialized (investors, partners, companies, institutions, universities, management boards, etc.) and non-specialized audiences in a clear and unambiguous way.
  • analyze the effects of quality control, monitoring, audits and inspections.
  • understand the role of industrial and intellectual property in the sustainable development of companies.
  • define and implement the decision-making processes in biotechnology businesses based on industrial property.
